Population growth is out of control and Victorians are paying the price with higher costs of living, higher energy bills and housing becoming more unaffordable.
A Liberal Government will ensure the future of Shepparton Foodshare by funding the acquisition or construction of a new and permanent home for this important, local not-for-profit organisation.
An elected Liberal Government will provide $500,000 for the new facility, allowing Shepparton Foodshare to continue supporting local people in need of assistance.
Speaking on the commitment, Liberal Candidate for Shepparton, Cheryl Hammer said, “The core business of Shepparton Foodshare is to support those who suffer food insecurity and unfortunately the demand is increasing, so today’s commitment to secure the future of Foodshare is very important. Skyrocketing cost of living is putting pressure on families and others.
Everyday hundreds of people in this region access food from Foodshare to get by. I have worked closely with the Board of Foodshare to make sure it can plan for the future and a permanent residence is key.
Established in 2012, Shepparton Foodshare has provided more than 4 million meals to local registered agencies who distribute to those less fortunate. Having recently been forced into a move into a second temporary premises since 2012, the lack of a permanent location has been identified as the biggest risk to the future of Shepparton Foodshare.
This commitment by the Liberals will provide Shepparton Foodshare with a permanent, fit-for-purpose accommodation base in which to conduct their operation and continue to deliver this vital service to people in the Shepparton electorate and the wider Goulburn Valley.
Only Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals have a comprehensive plan to get back in control of the cost of living, so Victorians get back control over their household budget.
Shadow Minister for Housing, Georgie Crozier said, “Shepparton Foodshare is a vital support service that prides themselves on the positive impact of providing nutritious food to those that would otherwise go hungry. The Liberals appreciate the valuable contributions of organisations like Shepparton Foodshare who prevent around 300,000 kilograms of food from going into landfill as waste every year and strengthening the community in tough times when they need it the most.”
